| Eisenhower Music Program:
Eisenhower Elementary's Music Education for students from Kindergarten through 5th grade is under the direction of John Zacharias. John is a native of Grand Prairie and has a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Music Composition and Theory.
All students learn first of all to sing songs that they enjoy singing. Younger students focus on basic musical elements (such as soft/loud, high/low) and learn fun motions to go with their songs. Intermediate students learn to read basic music notation and apply this skill to playing rhythm instruments and ORFF xylophones. Fourth and Fifth Graders also spend one session learning to play recorders (a plastic wind instrument).
Educational software and a large library of recorded music and videos are used to enhance the experience. Curriculum planning is guided by state standards and includes "cross-curriculur" reinforcement of TAKS objectives in core subject areas. Each grade level presents a musical/movement oriented program during the year in coordination with the PE teacher. For the most recent information about upcoming programs, check the school's monthly calendar.
